Pat.McNeill ("Fundamentals of Sociology", 1986)

McNeill argues that the hidden curriculum involves learning such things as:
"Right. Get cracking on answering these questions or it's a night in the slammer for you my son (or...err...daughter...)"

1. If a student fails to learn any or all of the above, briefly explain the likely educational consequences for the student.

2. Read the following and answer the questions that follow:

"Studies of the hidden curriculum have been especially popular with researchers who wish to show that, whatever the official goals of education may be, what actually happens in schools has more to do with control, domination and the consequent reproduction of social inequality.".

a. Using the list at the top of the page, briefly explain how they can be related to concepts of classroom control and classroom domination

b. Briefly explain how the factors in the list might contribute to the "reproduction of social inequality.".

3. From your own experience of classroom life, what additional things that students have to learn could you add to McNeill's list?
