There are three types of
revision material available in this section: AS Sociology and A2 Sociology: These options give you access to some high-quality materials (based around the AS Sociology for AQA and A2 Sociology for AQA texts) constructed around Key Concepts in the Sociology Specification. Revision Maps™ are spider diagrams of specific course modules and units. These can be used (in conjunction with Revision Cards if you wish) for both revision purposes and, perhaps more importantly, as a way of putting the things you know into an overall course context. Maps, as you might expect, are a visual way of understanding both Key Ideas and the connections between such ideas... Revision Cards, as the name suggests, are pocket-sized cards containing key ideas that can be used as basic revision prompts. The idea of such cards is not new (students have either been making their own or buying them ready-made for many years), but they are a useful revision technique for two main reasons: Firstly, they focus on key sociological ideas and act as useful knowledge-prompts. Secondly, because of their size (3" x 5") they are highly portable (they can be carried around easily in a pocket or bag). The advantage of this is that they can be used at times when other forms of revision are not possible or practical. If you think about, during the day there are many small periods of time that are wasted (the five minutes spent waiting for a bus, the twenty minutes spent on the bus, the ten minutes spent waiting for a class to begin and the like). If these minutes could be used effectively and efficiently they add-up to substantial amounts of time during the working day. If used productively a massive amount of simple revision can be done, in short, concentrated, bursts, during this "dead time". The basic strengths of Revision Cards, therefore, are the fact they focus your mind on key ideas and, most importantly, they allow you to revise consistently and productively in situations that would otherwise be wasted. In this section of the site, Revision Cards can be: a. Browsed on-line: This allows you to check-out each set of Revision Cards. It also means that if you want to copy a set of cards (to display on a classroom wall, for example) they are in a format designed to allow you to do this easily. b. Downloaded to your computer (use the Download option on the left-hand menu).
