Positive sanctions

Positive sanctions (or rewards) are pleasant things we can do to try to make people conform and behave in a routine, predictable, fashion.

Examples here might be things like buying a child an ice cream to make it stop crying (an odd example of the way breaking a social norm can actually bring a reward), offering someone an incentive to do something (buying someone a present if they fix your car, for example), or giving them a valuable qualification if they pass an exam.
