Research Questions and Activities
Note:
To complete some or all of these research questions you will probably need
access to a textbook or library.
1. Imagine that you have been asked to define the term "Sociology". Construct a definition of Sociology using a maximum of 100 words.
2. For each part of the definition you have produced:
a. Explain
it in more detail.
b. Provide an example to support your explanation.
3. Using the information in this section of the Pathway, start to construct a Sociological Glossary. You should look for key words / ideas and briefly note their meaning.
4. The Sociological Perspective can be broken-down into a number of smaller sub-perspectives. Using a textbook, identify the main Sociological Perspectives and briefly define them. You should focus on the main elements of each perspective and include a summary that highlights how a particular perspective differs from other perspectives (what, in effect, are its unique features?).
5. As a class exercise you might like to generate some more "common-sense" statements about the world. When you can't think of any more, use any available textbooks to examine the validity of these statements.
