Ideology One way of defining this concept is to follow Lawson and Garrod ("The Complete A-Z Sociology Handbook", 1996) when they note that ideology can be defined as: "A systematic set of beliefs which serve the interests of some social group in society. Ideologies are associated with power and the ability to present ideas as right and natural for everyone in society. Perhaps the best way of describing ideology is as ideas that are out forward for a purpose - to fulfill the aims of a social group in society and which may or may not be true." |
