Adobe provide a range of free tools - distributed through the Acrobat Reader - that can be used to extensively annotate any pdf document that allows "commenting" (a facility that's usually - although not necessarily - set-up by the document's author). Commenting is important because it adds a huge new dimension to any enabled document - the ability to add your own comments and annotations. This opens-up a range of possibilities for teachers (the ability, for example, to display a document on a whiteboard in the classroom, add discussion notes and appendices to the document and then distribute individual copies to students) and students (the ability, for example, to attach personal notes to a document to create an effective revision aide). Where eBooks and documents can be easily added to a school / college VLE also adds a further dimension to teaching and learning in that all students can be given access to the same document - at no additional cost to either themselves or an institution. On Sociology Central any document that has the legend "eBook Plus! Enabled" can be freely annotated - this includes both the free teaching notes and any purchase you make from The Shop (such as copies of AS Sociology for AQA (2nd edition) and A2 Sociology for AQA). |
