Contents include: This complete section, taken from the print version of AS Sociology for AQA, examines two broad types of explanation for the persistence of poverty - Individualistic (Cultural) explanations (such as the culture of poverty, underclass theory and Inter-Generational Transmission theory) and Structural explanations (including labour market theory, globalisation, the feminisation of poverty and Memberships theory). Although the information is aimed at those studying this AQA module, the theories discussed have wider application across the Specification (in terms of an Introduction to theory at A2 for example) as well as having some relevance for OCR students as an Introduction to the A2 synoptic module Social Inequality and Difference (the Underclass debate, theories of culture and poverty).

The material has been designed to meet the requirements of the 2006 AQA Specification.

AS Sociology for AQA - Order Inspection Copy Okay, so not that many students across the UK actually study Wealth, Poverty and Welfare (and I'm not exaggerating when I say that if we gathered them all together in my living room we wouldn't have to move the sofa to create more space - okay, I am exaggerating slightly; we'd probably have to move the wooden coffee table that, people tell me, is such an attractive feature of my living room). However, in the spirit of catering for minorities (and I think it's probably safe to call you an oppressed minority for having to study this particular module) there's a complete chapter (yes, one whole chapter - it's exiting I know, but try to contain yourself) devoted to the terrifically exciting topics of wealth, poverty and indeed welfare inside this suspiciously thick volume. And what's more, it's tailored to the 2009 Specification.
