About This Section

Books - Huh! What Are They Good For?

Quite a few things, actually (see: "The Top 10 Things To Do With Books"), but mainly they're quite good to learn things from.
In this case, to learn things about Sociology:

  • Because you've got to sit an exam in the subject...

  • Because you're going to teach the subject and it might be an idea to get up to speed before the new term starts...

  • Because you're interested in discovering new ways of looking at the world...

The list is endless. Probably (although for reasons of space and stupidity I've only included 3 items on this particular list). Anyway, the Bookshop section helps you find (and buy) Sociology A-level texts (see left-hand menu for categories). You can do this in a couple of ways...

1. Specific LinkThis is the "Check this book out at Amazon" icon.: Beside each book's title is a "Check this book out at Amazon" icon. Clicking the icon will take you to the relevant page at Amazon UK where you can check price and availability, order the book, browse "reader reviews or for other books that take your fancy.

2. Search Link: If you want to directly search the Amazon database for books not featured on this site simply type your search word(s) into the following "Keywords" box and press "Go".

A different way to shop...

This particular menu item provides fully-functional integration between this site (Sociology Central in case you've inexplicably forgotten) and Amazon.co.uk. What this means, in English, is that if you click the menu item "Sociology Central@Amazon" (wait for it...) a customised version of the Amazon website will, through the magic of the InterWeb, load into the space you are now reading. You can then effectively shop at Amazon.co.uk (including the use of their secure checkout system) without ever leaving the comfort of this site.

Now, you're probably thinking things like "So what?" or "That's all very well and brilliant, but what's the Unique Selling Point?" - and I'm glad you are because it gives me the opportunity to say that when you click the "Sociology Central@Amazon" option the first page that loads is a selection of nine (count 'em if you must) A-level Sociology books specially chosen by my good self for their popularity, usefulness and level of royalties I receive (although not necessarily in that particular order of course). If you don't like my choices there are further options to explore Amazon's Sociology list plus various choices (software, for example) that may - or may not - be of interest to the discerning reader.

Music and Stuff

If you fancy (relatively) cheap music, DVD's and Games instead...

Publishers / Authors

If you find yourself reading this and thinking:

  • "I really must send Chris a copy of our latest magnum opus to review", please feel free to contact me to arrange delivery.

  • "Hmm. What's in it for me or my company if I send this freeloader a pristine copy of our / my latest tome?", you might want to ask yourself "How many bookshops attract 8 - 9.000 individual Sociology students and teachers each day?". Just a thought. No pressure.

SociologyCentral@Amazon: If you feel your latest opus is worthy of / would benefit from the Promotional Opportunity afforded by appearing as one of the "A-level Sociology" featured books please feel free to drop me line (at the usual email address) and argue your case (or offer me fat wads of cash which would save a lot of time and on everyone's part).
