July
4th: Links: New reviews added to Culture and Identity section.
2nd: Links: Two things of note in this section. Firstly, the update of the "Universities" section is now complete (although there may be further entries to include as and if I can ever find the energy to look at another University web site again. I'd thought this section was becoming embarrassingly out-of-date but didn't realise just how bad it had become until I realised some of the entries were the ones I'd originally made in 1998. In the intervening years a great deal has changed - University sites now have "corporate identities" (10 years ago those in charge neither knew nor cared about "branding") and so they all, basically, look much the same (they use different logos and colour schemes but the message is uniformly about "How great we are" and how we're "ranked as the best" on some obscure scale - if the official national rankings didn't pan out in the way they'd hoped). In terms of content, however, nothing much has changed, although some are starting to provide resources applicable to one of their main customer markets - A-level students.

The second thing I've added is a new section (Sociology Blogs) to reflect the utility and difference of this newer type of resource.

There have also been some new links / reviews added (Introductory and Crime and Deviance) and I've decided on a bit of a redesign while I've got some time before starting a couple of new (paid!) publishing contracts.
June
25th: Links: The long, slow, and indescribably tedious process of updating the "Universities" section has begun...
24th: Links: New reviews added to Family section.
23rd: Links: New reviews added to Culture section.
21st: The Shop: New PowerPoint slides ("Introduction to Sociology") added to Teaching Resources section
April
14th: The Shop: New reviews added to AS and A2 Textbooks section of Bookshop.

I've decided to remove both the Projects section and Research Exchange from the site because of changes to the new (2008) Sociology Specification. Where students are no-longer required to do coursework this change made these sections redundant...
10th: Resources: New Teaching Notes ("Conceptions of Culture") added to Culture and Identity section. This file is a complete section taken from the 2008 publication, AS Sociology for AQA (2nd edition).
2nd: The Shop: Well, it's been a busy few months with no significant updates to add, mainly because I've been working on the 2nd edition of the AS Sociology for AQA textbook (among other things). It has, at last, been completed and I'm going to offer it for sale in two ways - a Black and White Print edition and a full colour Download edition. The latter's not quite ready yet (for a range of dreadfully dull reasons) but when it is you'll be the first to know (it's going to be dirt cheap too).

01st: Resources: "By Popular Request" I've added an option to see the voluminous video (Revision Online) in a much larger window - so now, instead of having to squint at a relatively small screen you can sit back, sip your cola and nibble your popcorn while watching glorious technicolour video clips I've nicked from somewhere at a "massive" 500x450px...Don't you ever say I never do anything for you.
November
28th: Resources: New section (Revision Online) added to Revision section.
This is an online version of the Revision Mapping notes currently available in a download (printed Pdf) format. In addition to being able to click away to your heart's content with the hyperlinked revision material you get the added bonus of some short video clips (and some other surprises if I ever get around to adding them - which, if I do, will probably be as much of a surprise to me as it undoubtedly will be to you). The first online revision map deals with Sociological Perspectives (in a strictly AS-stylee).

Bookshop: New Review added to Methods section

Resources: New Revision materials (The Nature and Distribution of Power) added to Revision section (A2 Sociology for AQA)

May 03rd: Have been sent a nice "Introduction to crime and deviance" booklet to post on the site. This is the first new material from someone other than my good self that's been posted for a long, long, time and it would be nice, if you've got materials that you'd like to share with teachers and students "around the world", to receive them (just use the usual email address).

Resources: "Introduction to Deviance and Social Control" by David Keir) added to Teaching Notes (Crime and Deviance)
Research Exchange: 1 new teacher added.

April 29th: Have added a new section to Revision to accommodate some equally Hi_Quality (TM) revision materials for the venerable AS Sociology For AQA textbook what I wrote.

Resources: New section (AS Sociology For AQA) added to Revision section.

April 27th: With the new A2 textbook due to hit the shops "late May" I've been busy producing some Hi_Quality (TM) revision materials to compliment the text (there are also revision materials to compliment the AS textbook in the pipeline). I've set-up a page where you can check out the new stuff - it's different to any revision material you've ever seen before (a quote I've just made up says that it "Sets new standards in Sociology revision" so you can't really say fairer than that, can you?); very visual and compact text-wise, as you can see for yourself if you navigate on over to the Resources section.

I've also been sent some interesting material for Crime and Deviance that I'll post over the next couple of days - so Keep Watching The Skies.

Resources: New section (A2 Sociology For AQA) added to Revision section.

April 25th: For some reason (possibly stupidity) I'd never made all the Revision Maps (TM) I created for the AS textbook accessible through the main site (you had to go to the AS site to find them). This has now been rectified and they can be accessed through the Revision Menu in the Resources section. Although they can be used as stand-alone revision material they work best in combination with the AS textbook - which is probably as good a reason as any to BUY THE BOOK (if it's subtlety you're after I'd probably look elsewhere).

March 24th: Bookshop: New Reviews added to AS and A2 Textbooks
Links: New links added to Crime and Deviance, Culture and Identity and Education sections.
March 21st: The general Spring Clean seems to be ticking over nicely with, as yet, no major disasters to report...

Links: New links added to welfare and poverty. New section (world sociology) added.

March 15th: Changes are afoot to the site - in the main I've redesigned (or "mucked-about with" as it's commonly known) the menus to make them more intuitive, neater and easier to update. In other words, I've cleared out the rubbish menus that have been hanging around for more years than I care to remember.

So, if things don't look the way they did - or, more importantly perhaps, work the way they did (or even work, I suppose) - it's because I'm experimenting with stuff. Normal service will be resumed just as soon as I can be bothered to make everything work properly...

Bookshop: 2 new Reviews added to AS and A2 Textbooks

March 14th: Have finally found the time to update the OCR A2 Research Planner (since virtually no-one does A2 with this Board and even fewer do coursework, it hasn't been one of my great priorities).

Projects: OCR A2 Research Planner added
Research Exchange: 1 new teacher added.

March 8th: Well. The A2 textbook has finally all but been put to bed (as we publishing types say) and it should be hitting the shops (probably with a very dull thud) "sometime towards the end of May" (we like to be fashionably vague in this business). This, of course, means I will have lots of time on my hands to add some new and exciting features to the site (which is publishing code for the same old stuff repackaged in a pretty new wrapper) as I sit back and wait for the money to roll in...

However, since everything's been a bit neglected these past few months there's some catching-up to do - I've got a pile of books to review, a whole wodge of websites (similar to a flock of seagulls but not quite so annoying) to post - including a new section on the ever-popular World Sociology - and some Notes I found hiding on my hard drive when I was Searching for Inspiration (which, unfortunately, I never found).

Like most people when they've got time on their hands, my thoughts turn to two things; spring-cleaning my computer, which usually means deleting loads of stuff to "free-up some space" and make everything neat and tidy (this, in the normal course of events, usually results in my computer failing to boot because I've deleted some essential part of the operating system, whereupon I spend the next three days cursing and pleading with it to start) and redesigning the web site.

Research Exchange: 3 new Teachers added.
New Message Board added.
