Family and Industrialisation This particular section of the AS course can, at times, seem a little distant and irrelevant to students. However, one way to both bring the past alive - and understand its relevance to contemporary society - is to engage with the past in a hands=on sort of way. The Shropshire Roots web site is one way to do this. The site can be used "as is" or teachers may want to tailor the material to their own particular tastes and interests (the Census material on family and household membership, for example, is an interesting way to think about family structures in Victorian Britain).
