1944 And All That

The 1944 (Butler) Education Act was undoubtedly a significant milestone in terms of the history of education in Britain.

In this article David Bell reflects on both the achievements of the Act and - in the light of the proposed changes put-forward by the Tomlinson Report - the relevance of the 1944 Act to modern school systems in this country.
